V-Berth

There are six parts to the v-berth; port side, starboard side, forward v-berth, aft v-berth, overhead, and lower v-berth. Each of these parts has a problem to be evaluated and fixed, repaired or ignored. There seems to be a theme here. If it goes through the hull or deck, it leaks or needs fixing. If I did it, then it will probably leak or need fixing. If it works fine or doesn't leak, then I haven't worked on it yet.

Deck Hatch

The v-berth hatch is leaking through the hinge mounts and the latches. When working on the deck, it feels as though I could easily fall through the hatch cover. I will be installing a lateral support for the deck and repairing the hatch itself.

After removing the 'latex' paint from the overhead. More structural fiberglass is in order for this project. The black cross could be to keep vampires away but I suspect that it is to cover the screw hole from a miscalculation.

Closeup of the hinges and latches. I can tell that the leaks are coming from the protruding bolt heads because as I looked up at them, the water drips in my eye. This is not definitive proof of the leak location but mere speculation.

After removing the hatch cover to fix the "soft spot", looks like the foam core is wet and rotten and icky and in need.

This is where a lateral support will be glassed in.

V Berth Bulkheads 10/09

The V-berth is the last of the projects to finish up the boat. I am currently finishing the brightwork in here and the void covers.

Stbd side bulkhead after sanding with 150 grit.

Three coats of varnish, done deal.

Port side bulkhead after sanding with 150 grit.

One coat of Gunstock stain.

Void Covers

The V berth before I got to it.

These are in the shop after one coat of Minwax "gunstock" and two coats of epoxy. 10/20/09

Finally thought I had all the woodwork refinished and I forgot the small piece for the berth. Can you tell which one is missing fromt he clues above? 10/21/09

Finished slip covers today. They aren't intended to last forever and they sure look better than that old blue vinyl. I also finished up a six foot hanging storage for the port side. 10/26/09

Anchor Chain Locker

Here is what I started with for the chain locker.

A couple epoxy coats to the chain locker cover and it is done, for now. 10/21/09
