Quarter Berth

This is the quarter berth. It use to be just a leaky, dark space that was icky.

Here is the quarter berth storage kit. The storage is also part of the nav table support.

After grinding down the liner, the cleats are placed with poly glue and 3/4" masking tape. I chose 3/4" masking tape because it was the only tape I had available onboard, otherwise, I would used masking tape anyway.

This complicated matrix of bracing, glue and carefully calculated interactive cooperation of medium types is difficult to negotiate when I needed to get to the back of the quarter berth.

The aft section of the quarter berth will receive some frame structure for supporting the nav table when it is in the closed position. I will be spending some time back here grinding and glassing the inner portion of the gunwale and beefing up support for the winches and cleats above.

A test fit on the ribs which will make for the storage bins. These may also support the backrest cushion for the seating arrangement. I still haven't decided on the cushion part or if it will just be a book/chart rack which also acts as a support for the nav table.

What the hell is this all about? The inner shell in the quarter berth had flexed out from the hull and created a big bubble. That had been more of an asthetic annoyance, however, my storage project has a couple of cleats and support rib mounting right in the middle of the bubble. The wood dowels are standoffs with poly glue to attach to the hull surface. The liner is braced back to the hull (as close as it gets) and then glued to the standoffs, effectively holding the bubble back - not really a bubble but more of a reverse flex in the liner shape. I applied heat to it in an attempt to relax the liner and pop it back to its' original direction, but hey, some things just don't want to cooperate.

After the cleats dried. Notice the exploratory holes in the liner. My idea for securing the liner closer to the hull failed.

Plans for the storage units in the quarter berth. I never put all the details into the plans because I don't know what the details are yet.

Attaching cleats to the ribs that will support the bottom shelf.

Another angle of the quarter berth that will be getting some cleats attached to it to hold the nav table.

Unfinished book rack.

This also acts as a guide and support for the nav table.

I really need to paint the rest of the quarter berth now don't I?
