Sliding Hatch 3/08

Here are a few views of the sliding hatch from the companionway. I am not happy with the trim around the companionway or the hatch trim. Not only does it not match up, but it is ugly (just my opinion). 05/29/09 It is not finished yet but maybe this weekend.

These are views of the slide rail forward and aft. Once again, ugly is the theme as well as needing repairs. My concerns here are that the angle of the slide rail and the cut out for the rail do not match. Excess wear is showing and once again, "ugly" is showing. Notice the cracks in the corners.

Got the hatch off and prepare to take it away to the shop. All I need now is a wave to come and send it to the bottom of the drink.

After grinding the inside corners of the hatch, I laid a couple layers of roving at the forward inside corner after applying some pressure to the hatches' arc. This should keep it from sliding against the deck when opening. This is a sound you can hear for quite a distance on the water.

Fitting and glueing the inside tracks.

Upper pics are of the crack repairs on the corners. The lower two pics are of the wood rail and slide guides. This is where my expertise in reluctance comes in.

Repaired corder with five layers of glass on inside and two coats of glass on the outside.
